How do I enter minutes or books read on behalf of a family or student?
As teachers, you might work with families who aren’t able to use Connect: Family Companion consistently, and as strong teammates you might want to enter Connect data for them. You can learn this through conversations with your families and by checking minutes/books read on your end regularly.
To enter minutes read and strategy reflections on behalf of a family or student, follow these steps.
To do that, you’ll need to be on the Reading Practice Targets page. When you’re there, you’ll see the option to view Reading Practice Targets and progress towards them.
Select the appropriate Classroom
If your program is using Books Read, click edit to input, change, or delete students’ books read. Click Save Changes before closing.
If your program is using Minutes Read, select the appropriate Week for which you want to enter information
Click edit to input, change, or delete students’ minutes read. Click Save Changes before closing.
Inputting Weekly Strategy information and logging minutes read is done from a different page.
If you are using Assessments for goal setting select the Reading Time & Strategies from the left navigation panel. If you are using RPT’s for goal setting select the Strategies tab from the left navigation panel.
Select the appropriate classroom that your student is in, or you can leave it in an All Classes view and see a complete list of your students.
Click Edit and navigate to the student who’s weekly strategy information you’d like to input.
Scroll to the right in order to find the week in which you’ll be inputting data.
You won’t be able to input information for a week that has not yet passed, so the past and current weeks will be outlined in red, where the upcoming weeks will be grayed out.
Once you find your week and strategy, click on the caret to the right of the word Select.
You must choose one of three options:
independently
with some support, or with a lot of support. These options reflect the ability of the student to perform the strategy. You will collect this information from the student’s family. Click Save Changes before closing.
Please reach out to your Springboard Program Leader or Program Coach if you have any questions entering minutes read or strategy reflections.
