How Connect works for families

Modified on Mon, 25 Mar at 4:03 PM

1. Text invitation: The parent or guardian receives an initial text message, inviting them to log reading minutes and review their assigned reading strategy in Connect: Family. The parent simply clicks on the link in the text message to access the application on the web.

2Connect allows families to see their students progress in four key skill areas: Engage & Enjoy (Engagement), Figure out the words (Phonics, Phonological awareness, Decoding & vocabulary), Understand the story (Comprehension), and Sound like a storyteller (Fluency).

3. Goal setting: Connect automatically recommends a skill for each child to improve as their goal. Teachers and Educators can modify the skill if they choose. Then, Connect provides specific strategies and tips they can use to reach this goal.

4. Learn and practice strategy: Families receive text reminders to practice the recommended strategy. They can click on a link in the text to view more information about the strategy on the web.

5. Log Reading Time: Families should be logging the reading time that their child spends independently reading and the time they spend reading with their child. They must select the “We Did It” button to save the minutes.

6. Record strategy progress:  At the end of the week, families have the opportunity to record their child’s strategy progress — whether their child can apply the strategy independently, with some support, or with a lot of support.
